As your graduation date draws closer, there are two other things you may want to look into getting done. The first is ordering flowers (a presentation bouquet) for yourself, and you might also want to think about getting your hair cut/trimmed.
You can absolutely choose to skip these steps, by the way.
If you plan to order flowers for your graduation (or someone’s graduation) you should try and place an order at a florist 3-4 weeks before the actual date, anything within 2 weeks might be a little too close. Of course, an alternate option is to pickup a bouquet the day of their graduation from a supermarket that sells them or at a flower shop.
I’m not too well-versed in flowers, but I think red or white roses are the norm for graduation bouquets. If you have a higher budget, you could probably go for lilies or calla lilies, too. Other flower options I’ve seen are tulips and sunflowers.
One thing to note is that flowers can be expensive. I live practically next door to a florist, and I got my quotes from them, but a dozen white roses can range between $75-$120 plus tax. What changes the price of the bouquet depends on the kind of flower you want, the amount and the presentation (so cellophane wrapping, with or without a box, simple or elaborate Korean wrapping paper, bows, etc).
I originally wanted calla lilies (they’re one of my favourite flowers), but a bouquet of 7 would have ranged from $150+, so do ask ahead and have a rough budget in mind. Additionally, you could also try Costco (if you have a membership) because some locations sell flower bouquets around this time of the year. Some days have better flowers, so I would check your local store 2-3 days leading up to the day of the event if you go this route.
If you order from a florist, I would try and pick up the flowers as close to the event time as possible to prevent the flowers from wilting. I’ve also heard that some schools have a service where you can order graduation bouquets and gifts to pick up at the venue, so that is also an option to look into.
Now onto haircuts, if you get regular haircuts yearly (typically 1-2 times a year) you probably won’t need to get a trim before your graduation. However, if you get irregular haircuts, you might want to look into heading in for a quick trim 2-4 weeks before graduation.
If you’re going to a salon you’ve visited before and aren’t trying a new style, you could get this done 2-3 weeks before graduation. However, if you decide to try a new place, then I would recommend 3-4 weeks in case you need to let it grow out. If you plan to colour your hair, I would do that about 2-3 weeks out from graduation, too.
Normally, around this time of the year, I go and get my hair coloured for the summer. But I decided to change things up this year by going to a new salon to try a new hairstyle, and then keeping my natural hair colour this year. I ended up going to The 17 Beauty Hair and Lash for my haircut and booked with Chloe. The salon is a bit pricier than the ones I’ve visited, but I think it was a worthwhile spludge to try something new (that worked so well).
