A List Of Splurge-Worthy Items

In the past blog posts, I’ve made lists of items that would be good/great purchases but there’s one thing almost all of them have in common. ​They typically don’t cost more than $40, which makes them sort of affordable in a sense. However, sometimes there are products we stumble upon that cost more than $40 and then we’re left wondering if the product matches the hype.  This is a list of some products that I’ve stumbled upon that seem to be very worth the hype, but please note that some are considered as high end products.

Before we get started, here’s the criteria that I used to determine if the products would make it into the list.

• Must be over $30 CAD per item (prior to any discounts)
• Can be a product hyped about online, stumbled upon or previously bought
• Cannot be an anti-aging product (most are already over $30 anyways)
• Cannot be part of a boxed set/vault
• Cannot be limited edition products
• Cannot be perfume (because everyone has their own likes and dislikes, and how much they would spend)

This is a very interesting product, it’s been raved about (from what I’ve seen) especially because it’s a cushion foundation and concealer in one compact. What I personally find cute/interesting about this is that the little air puff has a little corner at the top specifically designed to blend out the concealer. Most air puffs are circular in shape but the one from this compact looks like a drop of water. From the swatches I’ve seen, there seems to be 4 different shades so please keep this in mind before purchasing. Personally, this is a product that worth it if you’re in a rush to get somewhere and/or if you want touch-up on the go. However, how do the refill cushions work?

I honestly cannot rave about this product enough, I got a ton of samples of the Aqua Bomb when it first came out and I liked it compared to my old moisturizer and still love it now. The price is about the same as my old moisturizer so it’s not like I’m losing a chunk of money for it, and a little goes a long way because it’s moisturizing enough despite being a gel formula (I have oily-normal combo skin). The smell is also one of my favourites out there, it’s citrus-y but also not “in your face”. If that isn’t enough to get you sold on the product, there’s also an aqua bomb mist, an aqua bomb jelly cleanser and an aqua bomb sleeping mask.

Out of all the products on this list, I think this is the one that’s got the most lavish price tag. It’s also one of the items that ranks pretty high on my wish list, due to the fact that so many people use this product for makeup looks. It’s a liquid matte lip stain (as the name says) and I believe the whole reason why it’s so well liked is because of it’s staying/staining power, the unique applicator, and the creaminess of the product.  Would you get this for $49 on Sephora or would you opt for a cheaper dupe?

Prior to March of this year, I had no idea this product existed. But I’m fairly sure it’s been a bestseller for a very long time now since it’s almost always sold out on the brand’s website. The brand Vely Vely is founded by a famous Korean actress and model; Im Ji Hyun, and the product is made from mugwort which we already know (ish) has really desirable properties when it comes to skincare. I’m not certain I worded that correctly, but point is; it’s unique, it’s also kind of expensive and it’s flying off the shelves.

There’s about 3 different versions of this, and 6 different types/shades. There’s the multi-balm duo, the eye shadow trio and the match which is the combination of the two. Personally, if you’re going to get this, and to make sure it’s worth it, get the match duo palette. There’s 2 eyeshadows, and a multi-balm inside so eye shadow, blush and lip colour all in 1 little palette. These things are pricey, but they’re worth it for how compact and useful it is, not to mention I believe this is a vegan brand. The one that’s easiest to match for everyday or a night-out wear in my opinion, would be sunset romance.

Like the other products on this list, it seems that a lot of people use this, or at the very least a lot of people have tried and liked it. I understand the hype for a product that removes heavy makeup though, because usually we waste/use a lot of makeup remover/makeup remover wipes in order to take off heavy-duty makeup. So investing in a product that’s supposed to melt the makeup to be  washed away in understandable, this one ranges from $30-$40 depending on the type and size of the product you choose. Worth it.

This cushion, is of course, a no brainer to be added onto this list. It’s got great (full) coverage in a little handy compact that allows you to take it practically anywhere, and has great staying power. I believe it was revamped recently with 3 types with different finishes, but it’s still making waves. It’s also supposed to be hydrating because of the serum-ampoule properties it contains according to the promotions, either way, if you’re looking for a full coverage cushion, look no further.
