Hello all, it’s that time of year again. It’s Canada Day.

I’ll be frank, normally I’m that type of person to do something fun for Canada Day every year. But I don’t feel like it, and don’t feel comfortable doing so this year. If you’re looking for a list of things to do for Canada Day this year, this post is very likely not for you.

If you haven’t heard, there have been many recent discoveries of mass unmarked graves at multiple former residential schools all over Canada. They are awful discoveries.

I won’t get into the history of residential schools in Canada with you here, I was only taught so much in school. And I’m fairly sure a quick Google search will give you better insight on this than a 20-year old beauty and lifestyle blogger.

Wishing everyone the best, stay safe and if you have a little bit of time on your hands. I urge you to read up on the current situation of those unmarked graves and the history of residential schools in Canada.

The last residential school closed down in 1996 (according to a few quick searches). And during the time that residential schools were active in Canada, there has been an estimated amount that close to 4,100 children have died there.

These recent discoveries of unmarked graves across many former residential schools will mean that the estimated number will go up.

It’s disturbing to say the least and I can’t even imagine those families not knowing what happened to their children after they were sent to those schools. They need their closure, and I think it’s been long enough to wait for it.
