I picked this up on a whim while I was out, and this heating pad is supposed to stick onto your clothing over the lower abdomen area and essentially help with period pain and discomfort. Honestly, I’m more curious about whether it would help or not. Here are my thoughts!

At first glance, these heating pads seem like they’re meant to help during periods. This isn’t anything out of the ordinary, since many home remedies to help ease the ache and cramps during periods include the use of warm compresses or a hot water bottle over the area. The main difference, I suppose, is that one side has a sticky patch which allows you to stick it onto clothing.

Which now means you don’t have to stay still or keep having to arrange the hot water bottle over and over (unless you have something different, but I digress). I bought this at a local K Beauty store (M Brand Shop near Yonge-Finch) for $10, and there are about 5 patches inside. It retails for roughly the same price on Olive Young Global.

The patches are wrapped individually inside, and the technology/idea is not that different from those air-activated hand warmers we use in winter. They feel pretty similar, too, but these patches are about the size of your palm and have a little dip where the top is.

Once you’ve removed the individual patch, take it out of the bag, remove the paper backing, and stick it onto your clothes (clothing only) over the lower abdomen. Don’t stick it onto your skin. *My first patch wasn’t evenly distributed inside, so I tried to make it a little more even before sticking it onto my clothes. I don’t know if you need to do this, though.

The patch slowly begins to heat up as it’s exposed to the air, and according to the package, it should stay at a warm 45 °C. I would say it’s not as warm as the hand warmers (mainly because this is a more sensitive area), but it stayed warm for a while. I set it aside before bed to deal with in the morning, and it was still slightly warm when I woke up, which was impressive, honestly.

My period wasn’t terrible this time around, except that one day, but this warming pad did help ease the discomfort for me. Price-wise, I think this is affordable but not exactly cheap since it works out to around $2 each pad (after taxes).

In my opinion, if you have a system that works for you, you probably don’t have a need for this. However, if you are on your feet or always out and about, and need something that is convenient for a more active lifestyle, you could definitely benefit from this.

I plan to keep this stocked at home for occasional use, and I can see myself gifting it to some close friends too.
