Long story short, as a kid, my parents and I would occasionally do road trip vacations from Toronto all the way down to Miami and back making stops along the way. The stops were mostly planned with a few spontaneous ones in between, but they were wonderful memories.
We had done two versions of this road trip before, the first time we ever did this we left from Windsor and took the 75 down I believe. The second version we did was leave from Kingston and head to Washington D.C. before catching the 95 down, both versions were very scenic though we did get lost more often on the 95 lol.
One of our stops was Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and it was different than we had imagined it to be, but it was still fun. The first time we were there we were at this little motel/hotel (I don’t remember) that had a small pool/lazy river in front, and the second time we were in this tall hotel with a room overlooking the ocean. Frankly if I remember the name of the second hotel we’d be more likely to stay there again, because the sunrise was AMAZING!
The next place I remember us visiting was Daytona Beach, Florida it was rather quiet but once again, we managed to get a room facing the beach and the sunrise! It was very fun there because my dad got to see people fishing and occasionally catching baby sharks by accident, there were also jellyfish occasionally washed up on the shores and sand fleas (I think that’s what they’re called) freaking me out. Worth a visit.
Our first two days there were rather uneventful because there was a storm going on. Made for wonderful moody weather pictures tho.
During the first time we visited Florida, we had drove to Cocoa Beach from Orlando and spent the day there. Really nice and somewhat quiet beach (the day and time we went). If we were ever visiting Orlando again, I’d want to visit Cocoa beach again.
Clearwater, Florida is probably one of my favourite places in the US so far. I don’t remember doing much there but I have some pictures that tend to remind me of the sights. We stayed at the Royal Canadian Motel (oh the irony, lol) which was just a short walk from the beach, the room we had was at the second level and faced outwards towards the beach (I don’t remember if you could see the beach however).
*Fun fact: I saw too many videos about Mako sharks in the Gulf of Mexico before visiting clearwater, so I stayed in ankle deep water the whole trip.*

My other favourite place in the US is Miami, Florida. We had originally planned to stay at a hotel in Miami beach, but the prices were either a tad expensive or the hotel had no parking. We then drove to North Miami and got a room at Best Western, then took a cab down to Miami beach for the evening.

So my suggestion if you ever want to take a road trip like this, is to visit them in this order:
- Clearwater, Florida
- Miami, Florida
- Cocoa/Cocoa Beach, Florida
- Orlando, Florida
- Daytona Beach, Florida
- Charleston, South Carolina
- Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Let me know what you think! Oh, and if you have any suggestions of places to visit let me know!
