While Acwell isn’t entirely new to me, and I’ve heard the brand name thrown around before, I have to say that I don’t know much about the company/brand other than that they make skincare geared toward those with sensitive skin. But a curious test of this product and I’m more than a little surprised that no one is really talking about this serum yet. Here are my thoughts.
I received the Acwell Licorice Serum from Acwell and Picky in exchange for my honest review, all opinions and thoughts are my own. And I’m thankful for the opportunity to try this out because this could be an underrated favourite this year.
First of all, Acwell as a brand focuses on Traditional Korean Dermatology to find a healthy skin balance and is mainly geared towards those with sensitive or damaged skin while using traditional ingredients. I find the licorice serum interesting because it uses licorice water as an ingredient because it’s new to me. Additionally, the pH of the serum is very mild at 5.5, and I remember that pH-focused skincare and skincare products were a very big thing not too long ago. So if you are someone that prefers a skincare routine or product that revolves around that, this may be perfect for you!
At first glance, the box and the serum container look tiny especially since there’s 30mL of product. I’m used to serums being around 50mL on average, but I know a portion of skincare users might lean towards 100mL serums. Nonetheless, I’m also used to concentrated serums being in small containers so I didn’t mind this change at all, just wasn’t expecting it. The box is a mash of dark brown and white with teal accents, very aesthetic but also reminds me of products that you may see at a dermatologist’s office (which I guess is the idea).
The bottle and the dropper are plastic, so they’re travel-friendly and aren’t likely to break in transit. and follow the same colour scheme as the box but with dark brown taking centre stage. The serum itself is this creamy beige colour, with a rather creamy viscous consistency. It’s not super runny but it also won’t run away from you either. It sinks into the skin very quickly and has a bit of a “blank” smell to it, so I would say it’s fairly scentless.
What I wasn’t prepared for is how moisturized it would leave your skin. Your mileage may vary with this product but I can seriously feel the difference on my skin after applying this serum, it mainly promotes helping to calm and ease damaged skin but there are some hidden moisturizing properties here too. (At least for my combination skin type).
Aside from the surprise moisturizing factor, I get a near-instant cooling sensation when applying this serum. Though I cannot say this for sure because my parents and I are keeping the condo well-cooled lately after the slight humidity raise that we got this past week. We’re still affected by the smoke and haze from the wildfires and this has helped with vitalizing my dull skin and also helping calm the occasional breakout that is starting to form.
I’ll update the progress of the serum with my current pimple situation as it goes, so check back!
Aside from that, a little goes a long way with this serum and while I’ve almost had this for one month, I’m only about 20% through the serum despite using it every night. Colour me impressed by this.
Overall, I’m very pleasantly surprised with the Licorice Serum from Acwell. I think it’s kind of underrated without many people talking about this, and I hope more people try it out.
