Hello! This is the second review for the Skinfood X StyleKorean TMRM, if you didn’t come from the previous post, no worries! You can check out the introductory post here, to get some background info. This review is for the Carrot Carotene Moist Effector (ampoule, I suppose?) from the brand Skinfood. Here we go.

First of all, these products were given to me in exchange for an honest review as part of StyleKorean’s Try Me Review Me program. This time around, it’s with the brand Skinfood. The product that I’ll be trying and reviewing in this review is Skinfood’s Carrot Carotene Moist Effector (ampoule).

I’m no stranger to Skinfood because it was one of the first Korean beauty brands that I heard about/knew of when I got started on this journey. The Carrot Carotene ampoule is a skincare item that I actually really wanted to try when it first came out, but by then the local Skinfood store in Pacific Mall had already closed and I couldn’t find it on most sites.

So to say I’m really excited to be able to try this is an understatement.

So this ampoule is supposed to be made of 75% beta carotene from carrot seed oil, it’s safe for sensitive skin, and is meant to immediately soothe and moisturize your skin. It also protects/helps with irritation and is supposed to be good for over-heated skin.

Skinfood Carrot Carotene Moist Effector Bottle

The first thing I noticed, is how sturdy everything is! The cap/dropper is a nice straight one (no angled droppers here) and works properly, and the bottle is glass (pretty thick too). Everything from the box to the bottle has these earthy tones and there are these little dirt-looking specs on/in the glass that is part of the design.

First off, the carotene ampoule is clear and pretty runny – almost like oil. This texture makes it really easy to apply, and it also doesn’t drip that fast so no worries about it going everywhere. One thing I noticed right off the bat, is the scent of the ampoule.

Skinfood’s product pages claim there’s no additional fragrance, but there’s a prominent “green” scent in this carotene ampoule. It smells kind of like what a carrot or vegetable would smell like, but very. . .fresh? It’s pretty prominent right from the bottle, but is less noticeable when applying the ampoule and almost fully dissipates after a few minutes.

The first time I tried this, I was really wary because it was a freezing cold day and my skin felt over-heated due to the cold wind blowing in my face for some time. So my skin felt heated, irritated, and very dry. While the ampoule promised to help moisturize and soothe the skin, I was understandably cautious. A small patch test yielded good results – no burning, itching or stinging. And no redness after letting it sit.

Let me say, my skin absolutely loves this ampoule! It’s got a great moisturization factor to it without the oily or sticky feeling (I’ve got oily to normal combo skin), and the biggest bonus was that it soothed the irritation and the heat-feeling from the cold. It also played nicely with the rest of my routine (listed below), and I woke up the next day with supple and moisturized skin.

Now with most products claiming to hydrate or moisturize the skin, I put it through my overnight test. Which is just one layer of toner and one layer of the product, and leave it until the next morning to see how hydrating this is. This is done best if you have that skin moisture measuring device, but I don’t have one. . . so yeah.

And my face felt normal the next morning, not dry or rough at all. Which to me, proves that it’s got great moisturization properties on its own.

Overall, I highly recommend this ampoule, especially for those with oily, combination and normal skin (your mileage may vary). I recommend using this ampoule before your eye cream (unless you have a thicker serum/ampoule) to help lock everything in, and I think it’ll be wonderful to use throughout the summer to combat over-heated skin!
